I would have written yesterday but I drank too much champagne and spent far too much time on Facebook where I and a million other people were holding our collective breath until the transition from the old administration to the new old administration was complete. Helicopter, plane, cars, Klobuchar, Michelle’s outfit, swearing in, cool woman veep, Lady Gaga, flags, Tomb of the Unknown, going home.

I had been keeping what I called a “count up” to the inauguration because I felt anxious and slightly nauseous about the first three weeks of January and kept myself busy–and in the way of social media, I reported on the specifics of keeping busy.

Today was the first full day of this new administration and Yamiche is smiling again, the press secretary doesn’t dress like she’s going to a cocktail party and I don’t have to wake up hearing that annoying cadence of bragging lies. So, a good start to my way of thinking.

There are people in my family as well as my friends group that are very, very angry about the results of the election and I stopped getting their updates months ago because they were making me crazy. But I take a peek there now and then to see what sad and outraged new meme they’re sharing. No, really, they are sad to me because I know some of these people are decent humans (though some, frankly, are not) and they are low.

Since I was regularly blogging, I’ve been doing a podcast with my buddy Alicia. It’s called Wyrd Mountain Gals and we do it once a week. You can find it just about anywhere podcasts can be found and our focus is on Appalachian folkways, history and stories. Well, we recorded that today but it goes live on Sunday evenings.

New days, old days. Work to do.
