but first (or should I say “next”?) is Burns Night.

Training for clergy is a jumble of reading, practical experience, war stories around a camp fire and spending good time listening to the clergy in other religions to see how things get done there.

I was blessed to know a man who was smart, experienced, savvy and profoundly connected to the Divine.  He was old school. We shared a common interest in Celtic culture and spent many an hour discussing “Celtic Christianity,” Druidry and Pelagius.  He taught me so much about being a priest and walking the tightrope of vows to the Divine and service to the people. I sometimes say that Charlie Bryan taught me how to be a priest.

We honor his memory each Burns Night with a sit-down dinner, poetry, song and whisky. This year will be no exception.  After that, I turn my attention to Imbolc and the powerful presence of the gold-red Woman, Brigid of Kildare.
