Alex Bledsoe and I are both pondering whether the era of bloggery is drawing to a close. Certainly I have not been engaged with this process in several years. I began blogging at my local newspaper’s early online presence where I blogged pretty much every day. I’m astounded to think about that today but I’m aware that my “speaking platform” has become social media–primarily Facebook–and if I spent less time there, I’d have more to say here.

So I’m going to explore using this platform for writing about…well, writing. Most of the witchery and priestess stuff happens in social media but this may be a place to fiddle with book and essay ideas and get the feedback of anyone who stops by. This may not last either but I do find myself reluctant to write about my writing process on social media and I’m not sure why. Maybe it doesn’t seem very interesting to anyone but me. Maybe I’ll explore that here.

I’m in the gestational phase right now, bookwise. I’ve been working on The Ragged Wound: Tending the Spirit of Appalachia for several years and it keeps getting replaced by other projects, which means it isn’t ready yet. I’m going to try teaching it as a class and see what happens.

Roots, Branches and Spirits was released in February, sold out on its release date and was unavailable for a month while the second printing was ordered, printed and delivered. Part of that was Covid-related, the other was a (now blessedly former) publicist who was not good at communicating. Interesting, huh?

Seasons of a Magical Life drops on Aug. 1 and we’re in the last big pre-publication push. Podcasts, festivals, beautiful handouts and bookmarks that are printed on seed-impregnated paper! How cool is that? My publicist team is lively, creative and fun–for which I am terribly grateful. The book got a strong review in Publishers Weekly last month and that was pretty dang thrilling.

I guess I did have something to say about writing.
