Words, Words

In which I talk about rather a lot of writing--past, present...and sooner or later, I'll get around to the future.

I'm pleased to announce that my book "Staubs and Ditchwater: a Friendly and Useful Introduction to Hillfolks' Hoodoo" has been published by Silver Rings Press. Thanks to those of you who pre-ordered. I'm very excited to have this information in book form.  My book of Earth rituals is now in process--Earth Works: Ceremonies for a Changing Planet--is also being published by Silver Rings Press, an imprint of WNC indie publisher, Renegade Planets Publishing.

I'm part of the stable of writers for Hoodoo and Conjure Quarterly, available through Amazon or through the publisher Planet Voodoo.

The Longest Day a Question of Brief Balance

Available from Asphodel Press, this little devotional includes my "Rituals as The Serpent Uncoils", a praise-song to Inanna, in exchange for rain.  You can order it through their website at www.asphodelpress.com

What I write...

Appalachian-- I'm exploring what it means to be an Appalachian woman in a changing culture through essays in local print media, as well as short pieces in "Christmas Presence", "Clotheslines" and "Women's Spaces, Women's Places."

Plays:

I began my writing life as a playwright and have several scripts available.  These plays have been produced and the rough edges smoothed out.  Some are original and some are adaptations of folklore and world literature.  They include

The Odyssey

Beowulf

MotherSongs: the Story of Witchcraft from the Paleolithic to the Present

The Burning Times: a Study of the Continuing Inquisition

Carolina Folk Tales: Haints and Boogers

The Blue Bird (an adaptation of the Maeterlinck classic)

Three Sisters (an adaptation of Chekhov's work)

Moby-Dick

Leviticus: the Fifth Book of Moses

Rituals/Ceremonies:

I can be found most holydays on the Wheel of the Year at a Mother Grove Goddess Temple public ritual.  But I'm also available to speak to your group--church or social--and to create appropriate ceremonies for you.  Send me an email to inquire.

Blogs:

For several years, I blogged for the Gannett daily paper in my hometown. Now Asheville's Village Witch has moved to Wordpress.  Here's the link:

 Asheville's Village Witch

I created a blog for the writing and production of my book, Staubs and Ditchwater. If you are interested in the writer's process and want to follow the aftermaths of promotion and distribution, you may enjoy it.

I also blog with author and gardener Peg Aloi on the Pagan Foodies blog.
